Super 45 Tours - A Mixtape of 60s French music on 45
As my tastes change so I am able to revisit things I had written off in the past (how often this has happened I don’t dare to count). I remember going through my sisters CDs and deciding that I MUST like Francoise Hardy because she was so beautiful, but no, 60s French pop, for years, always left me a little non plussed. Though very lyrical when spoken I found the French language a little irritating when sung, this coupled with the songwriters and producers of the 60s penchant for saccharine sweet strings rendered it irrelevant to me. But time (and a trip to Paris) has changed me as this mix may indicate. Though I would have loved to include some of my favourite tracks by artists such as Brigitte Bardot, Jacqueline Taieb & Christine Laume I decided to limit this to stuff I have picked up on 45. It’s full of saccharine sweet strings, some versions of American R&B numbers (Oui C’est Lui - thanks to Finn for bringing that to my attention) and a couple of classics too. Enjoy.
